Vision and Values
Four values shape everything we do, from the way lessons are taught to the way pupils treat each other in the boarding house at nine o'clock at night.
To give every pupil a rounded British education that builds strong character, a lasting love of learning and the confidence to serve others.
A school where every child is known, and every young person leaves ready to lead a good life with integrity, knowledge and care for others.
Our Four Values
Values only matter if you can see them. This is what each one looks like in a normal school week.
Honesty, courtesy and responsibility, taught alongside academics.
- Telling the truth, especially when it is hard
- Owning mistakes and putting them right
- Good manners to everyone, not just to adults
- Keeping commitments to teams, casts and friends
High expectations, curiosity and a love of reading.
- Lessons that stretch every pupil, whatever their starting point
- Reading widely, inside and outside the curriculum
- Asking good questions and following them up
- Taking pride in careful, finished work
Contribution to the school, the town and the wider world.
- Older pupils mentoring younger ones in houses and clubs
- Volunteering with Cheltenham charities and schools
- Leadership roles as prefects, captains and house officers
- Fundraising chosen and run by pupils
Every child is known, encouraged and given a place.
- A personal tutor for every pupil
- Boarding houses that feel like family
- Room for every kind of talent, not just the obvious ones
- Celebrating the many cultures in our community
How Values Become Habits
Our values are taught explicitly in tutor time and assemblies, but mostly they are learned by example. Staff are expected to model them, and pupils notice when we do and when we don't.
Each term, every house and year group chooses a value to focus on, with pupil-led projects, discussions and service activities. Pupils who show the values in action, often in small, unseen ways, are recognised in assemblies and at the end of each year.
When things go wrong, as they sometimes do in any community, our approach to behaviour is built on the same values: honesty about what happened, responsibility for putting it right, and a fresh start afterwards.
